The Design System will provide benefits for these groups:
By having a library of components available to use during design the Design System:
- Saves time
- Avoid reinventing the wheel (or popup menu)
- UI design is faster / more efficient
- Concentrates innovation where it is needed
- By making production of UI prototypes quicker, it allows designers to focus more on solving customer/user problems
Documentation for components makes developing components easier by providing a detailed specification
By providing a library of implemented components developers can
- Concentrate on delivering features, not components
- Save time by reusing components, shared between products
- Avoid writing as much HTML/CSS which developers are typically less skilled at
NB: Implementations do not yet exist, but please do consider contributing
By saving designers and developers time
- Deliver value faster
By having standardised components, for both design and development
- Deliver higher quality UI
- Improved UI consistency, makes additional products easier to learn
- Greater consistency of design by using the same common solutions
- Choose alternative components with guidance in the design system documentation
- Accessibility baked in, reduces legal exposure
- UI best practice baked in
