Maturity Model

By establishing a staging system for our design process, the OneUL Design System can grow with a clear purpose: to answer our business needs with clarity.

Progress and change start from our users. The One UL Design System welcomes contributions from our community and takes them to a level of maturity that benefits all our teams.

The design system defines the following maturity stages for each element:

  1. Stage 0 — The element has been properly identified and recorded. It has not undergone any refinement by the governance team. Teams that have suggested the element are encouraged to build their version for later stages in the model.
  2. Stage 1 — The element has been approved for further revision by the governance team.
  3. Stage 2 — The element has been revised, signed off by the governance team and released.
Scope Management

How are items added to the design system?

The design system serves the products it is expected to be used on. For that to happen, products' needs must be identified, recorded into backlog and prioritized into the production queue.

Product teams are strongly encouraged to get in touch, so as to express their desire to use the design system and communicate their needs. Reach out to

Release Model & Deliverables

Each release consists of a group of elements which are delivered in different stages:

  1. Design specification and documentation through ZeroHeight. All subsequent deliverables are based off of the content of this document, as long as the design elements being worked on are at stage 1;
  2. HTML markup, styled with CSS and SCSS in the form of a single file and an NPM package, respectively;
  3. Angular component library (in progress) in the form of an NPM package, as well as a live Storybook website;
  4. React component library (in progress) in the form of an NPM package, as well as a live Storybook website.
